JOB SUMMARY
Summary Description
The Director of Curriculum and Instruction shall oversee the development, organization, evaluation and operation of the district’s instruction and curriculum in accordance with state standards, district policies, and regulations. This will include the monitoring of instructional practices through all building level coaches.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide direction to the district concerning curriculum and instruction matters
- Plan, develop and evaluate the district’s curricular and instructional programs
- Coordinate the development, assessment and revision of new and revised curriculum and curriculum guides for the district
- Chair and monitor district curriculum committees, ensuring results are consistent with district educational objectives
- Monitor the effectiveness of individual building’s grade level and department meetings in order to align vertical instructional collaboration throughout the district
- Plan and conduct district-wide department meetings in order to align vertical instructional collaboration throughout the district
- Provide goals and objectives for educational programs
- Interpret the present curriculum and proposed curriculum changes for the board, the administration and the staff
- Keep informed of the latest research, trends, and developments in all areas of curriculum and interpret for the administration teams and staff as necessary
- Monitor the effectiveness of textbooks and supplementary materials used in the educational programs in the district
- Prepare written reports and oral presentations for the board relative to District Curriculum, Instruction and accountability matters
- Create and/or oversee the collaboration of all district-wide professional development and in-service activities for educational staff
- Upon request of principals/coaches, observe teachers in their classrooms to offer insight for the enhancement of effective instruction
- Coordinate the acquisition of or the continued usage of educational technology programs for the district
- Monitor state and government education laws, rules, and regulations
- Keep current with state academic content standards, benchmarks, and indicators (K-12)
- Ensure curriculum alignment with Common Core standards for the State of Missouri, along with ACT standards and with college readiness standards
- Seek and share curriculum practices from other districts, professional journals and programs
- Participate in meetings, workshops and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform all of the above job functions
- Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current Missouri Administrator’s certification (K-12 Preferred)
- Master's Degree in Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Specialist in Administration preferred
- Administrative experience (3 years) at the building level; experience in curriculum development and implementation, staff development; and five or more years of successful teaching

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, employees, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form, and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Board of Directors, staff, and the school community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and Board of Directors policies.
